Wrexham A.F.C. – The final push!
Egwyl’s guest contributor, Alex Whilding is here to tell you all about Wrexham A.F.C.’s astonishing season and their sprint to the finish!
It’s been good let’s make it even better.
This season so far has been special for every Wrexham fan. There have been memories made that will last a lifetime, but WE can still make it even better.
With 13 games to go of the season and Wrexham still being in contention for the title, I thought this was the perfect time to reflect.
There’s a buzz about the Racecourse at the moment from fans to players that have been missing for a few years now. The team that manager, Dean Keate’s has put together, know what it means and show the same passion on the pitch as the thousands of fans in the stands.
I think I’m right in saying that if you would have given us this position at the start of the season everyone would have bitten your hand off but now, we’re there let’s have a right old go at this!
Okay, the season didn’t start too great, losing at home to Macclesfield but, from then on the Racecourse has been a fortress and nobody wants to come here. Even our away form hasn’t been that bad, okay maybe too many draws but we’re still hard to beat.
A perfect example of this is, Tranmere away, having started brightly having Wedgbury sent off so early was a kick in the teeth but, the belief and desire paid off when Holroyd hammered home that winning goal! The scenes of celebration when we scored were special and truly summed up the passion.
We’ve won games when we’ve played badly and that’s a sign of a good team. It has been difficult at times, over the Christmas period, for example, we didn’t get the wins maybe people thought we should have but we stood together.
Don’t forget just before Christmas the big one, Chester away, yes we didn’t play our best at all but, captain fantastic this time scored that crucial winning goal. 1200 reds fans celebrating victory and the players and management stayed out on the pitch with us celebrating until we were let out of the stadium. UNITY
Another point to add is that we had the best January transfer window for years. Signing Akil Wright up firstly was a huge sign that we meant business. Next came Scott Quigley from Blackpool the goal scorer we needed. The attacking midfielder we needed was next was Nicky Deverdics from Hartlepool United and shortly after Jonathan Franks also from Hartlepool. The reason we had such a successful window was down to the fans! Fans who put their hands in their pockets to aid the promotion push.
We’re heading in the right direction and no matter what happens from now till May, I for one am proud to support the club. We need everyone to pack the Racecourse for the remaining 6 home games!
Back the boys in their promotion push, it all helps! Sing your hearts out for the boys let them know we are right behind them every step of the way during these last 13 games.
Thanks for the memories so far this season boys lets go and make some more!
Come on you reds!
