Get Involved in Campus Activities – There is plenty going on around the university’s campus not only during Freshers Week, but all year! From societies, live music nights, game nights and sporting events, there’s plenty of things to get involved with. This is a great way to meet new students that aren’t necessarily on your course as well!
Take a Tour of the University Campus – You’ll be doing this during your welcome week and you may have also seen parts of it during the Open Day, but make sure you know the ins and the outs of the university. When you get to that part of the year when deadlines are looming, you’ll need to bury your head in your books, so seek out the quiet places on site!
Make the most of every opportunity – Plenty of opportunities are available for all courses at Glyndwr and you need to make the most of them! If a work placement slot becomes available, take it! If a lecturer asks for volunteers to help with a project, do it! You never know where all the experience, big or small, will lead to! Afterall, university is only a short few years of your life, so make the most of it!
So don’t be too anxious about your grades at first – Remember, there is no such thing as the ‘perfect’ student. We all have things were good at and things were not so good at, but that’s what makes us unique. Of course, your grades are important, but it’s important not to stress yourself out over them, especially not in the first year. There is so much help around the university, speak to fellow students, lecturers and support staff if you feel anxious.
Make the most of Freshers week – Freshers is an amazing and wonderful experience full of new people in a completely new environment, so don’t let your week pass you by! Take advantage of every opportunity that is thrown at you and don’t be afraid to try new things. The week can be a little overwhelming, but this is just the beginning of an exciting and brand new chapter in your life.
and finally…HAVE FUN! During your univeristy years, you will make friends that will be in your lives forever and you’ll make memories that will last a lifetime!
